Sunday Literary Session with Fairfield Books
3:00 PM – 4:00 PM · Fairfield Community Centre, 121 Station Street
Join fellow book lovers for a cosy afternoon of storytelling, conversation and afternoon tea — and hear from award-winning author Jock Serong on his new book, A Suitable Man.
Most Australians know the Fletcher Jones name from the stores and the clothing, but few know the man behind it. The son of a struggling Bendigo blacksmith, David Fletcher Jones left school at thirteen, survived being buried alive by a shell blast in France during WWI, and went on to build a menswear empire founded on an idea well ahead of its time — profit-sharing and staff ownership. The sign over his Warrnambool factory read “Fletcher Jones and Staff”.
Jock Serong is the author of Quota, The Rules of Backyard Cricket, On the Java Ridge and Cherrywood, and has won the Ned Kelly Award and the ARA Historical Novel Prize. Bring your own favourite reads along to share.
Come along — everyone is welcome
All sessions are free and no bookings are required. Just turn up on the day.
